“Neither situations nor people can be altered by the interference of an outsider. If they are to be altered, that alteration must come from within.” - Anonymous
This section discusses the Independent clans of undead that hold their own in the Emerald darkness of Seattle. You'll learn what it is to be an outsider, with all of the privilidges and deficiencies that entails. What do these clans have to hide from the rest of the 'civilised dead?' - you'd be surprised.

The Independent Clans serve none but their own ends. While not part of a common agenda, each of the independents have unique and devastating abilities that make them respected -- or feared -- by the other clans.

Demon worshippers, serial killers, diabolists, and traitors -- the Baali are all these things and more. The Baali represent the darkest side of the kindred and provide a mirror which reflects the darkest desires. They live a life of fear, forever hiding from vampiric society, pretending to conform.
In the modern era the Baali continue to infiltrate and corrupt the other clans, playing the role of devil's advocate with great skill. None outside the Clan know the full extent of their power, and few are even aware of their existence. They remain the expression of ultimate evil in the kindred, while possessing a measure of the power that could stave off Gehenna.
The Baali are the darkest of the kindred. They serve the darkest powers in existence and strive to create a world of corruption, ruled directly by the great infernal Demon Lords. They are not, however, senseless killers. Rather they are the gentle corrupter who tempts mankind. They are the serpent in the garden, the dark voice in us all, whose tool is temptation. The Baali maintain a great masquerade, greater than that of all other clans. They survive only by hiding amongst their enemies, slowly manipulating others to do their will. (OOC: The foul and infernal Baali are not available as Player Characters and are NPC Only)

Perhaps an offshoot of the Toreador or the Malkavian Clans - or both - the Sirens blend artistry with madness for those who hear their song.
No one is sure where this unusual bloodline originated. Due to the musical nature of their powers, most believe them to be an offshoot of the Toreador clan.
Whatever the descendance, these vampires, for there were few male members, were singers without compare. They could use their voices to perform incredible acts.
However due to the small size of the bloodline and the fact that the Daughters only embraced those of little reknown they, and thier clan's subsequent extinction remain a mystery to this day.

Preferring to spread corruption of their own design, the Setites maintain a careful neutrality with the clans of both the Camarilla and the Sabbat.
Often a lack of trust exists between the clan of self called "Setites" and other established clans. The oddest thing about this lack of trust is that most kindred never really understand why. Sure, most Setites sell drugs or cater to the darkest sides of human nature, but what is really evil about that? All the clans are equally guilty of damning acts of cruelty that makes the Setites obvious goal of spreading corruption seem minor in comparison to the other clans own dark history and secrets. Elders sometimes instruct their childe to be careful in their dealings with Setites, or just don't mention them at all.
Once asked to join the Camarilla, the clan declined much to the relief of most of the other members. The Sabbat apparently earned the Setites scorn with their refusal to maintain secrets from the eyes of humans. A Follower of Set will be your best friend, a very dangerous enemy, or both, depending on some ancient rules of conduct they never share with outsiders.
The sand snakes are very good at giving other kindred what they want most, to what end is unknown. A seemingly endless supply of resources is at their command, even the resting places of items of mortal legend are known to them. There are few things that most Setites will refuse to acquire for you in order earn your favor should you be worthy of their attentions. It's rumored that Followers of Set know more of kindred history than any other clan, however they refuse to share that knowledge at any price. Despite Followers of Set being present in every Domain known to the Camarilla, little is known of their true motives. (OOC: Slightly Restricted Clan, subject to cap)

The Beast is within all vampires, young and old, Camarilla, Sabbat or Independant, and arguably, no clan makes this more outwardly apparent than the Gangrel. Whether because their clan's connection to the beasts of nature, their mastery the forms of those beasts, or a curse out of an ancient irony, as their inner Beast comes out, it always leaves a physical mark on the Outlanders.
The Gangrel are a varied clan, as they tend to pass the Embrace on in many walks of life. But one common thread seems to run through this clan. The Gangrel seem to prefer loners or the rugged, those who have the wits, guts and inner fortitude to handle the shock the shift into their new unlife. Many Gangrel are further tested, being embraced and left, often in the wild. The sires watch, and wait for the fledgelings to prove themselves in the harsh new existence, with their new powers, new weaknesses and new hunger. This period of watching can often last a year, sometimes less, sometimes more, and sometimes, the sire never returns, leaving their childe to his or her own ends, washing their hands of their own spilled blood.
Gangrel rarely stay in one place, opting to wander as nomads. For this reason, they have tended to show only nominal support of the Camarilla, if only because it being less intrusive than the Sabbat, but very recently, the Clan has made a large movement towards official independence. In the Middle Ages, the Tremere clan found itself surrounded by its enemies; the Inconnu, Werewolves, jealous Mages, and the Tzimisce. in hpes of creating an army to fight these enemies, the Tremere created an artificial creature by mixing Nosferatu blood with Tzimisce blood and covering a statue with this mixture, and then, by using a Thamaturgical ritual, gave it life. This became the first Gargoyle.
Depending upon whom one asks, there are two (slaves to the Tremere and free), three (sentinels, warriors and scouts) or one (just lump the ugly bastards together) classifications for members of the Gargoyle bloodline.
In these tumultuous nights, it is often easiest to break down the Gargoyles by affiliation, rather than ancestry - among the ranks of the free Gargoyles, terms like "scout" are shunned as evidence of a less-than-pleasant past.
As the years tick by, more and more free Gargoyles have made themselves known, many of them aligning with the Camarilla. Whether the choice of sect comes from Gargoyles' desire to thumb their collective nose at their former masters, a deep-seated residual need for order and the chain of command, observation that the Camarilla's pay scale is significantly better than the Sabbat's, or even fundamental agreement with Camarilla philosophy is irrelevant. There are more and more Gargoyles appearing on the streets, and more and more of these place themselves firmly under the Masquerade. (OOC: The powerful and stony Gargoyles are not available as Player Characters and are NPC Only)

Hideous rumours of necrophilia, incest and necromancy forever set this clan apart from other Kindred, as does the Giovanni accords separate them from Kindred politics. Those who dabble in either, and are discovered, are apt to be destroyed.
Imagine being the Crypt Keeper and Dracula, Al Capone, and the Godfather, being rich like Donald Trump to having it all like Hugh Hefner. All of these creatures have a couple things in common. They are all powerful creatures who are remembered. They saw a dream (or a nightmare)in the world and took it and made it theirs.
Giovanni come in many shapes and sizes, from the biggest brutes to the thin, frail, scary-looking Necromancers and the Dons of The Family looking like Mafia Kings.
The Family isn’t all Mafia and all Necromancers however. There are many average folks in between; the lawyers, the bankers, the book keepers, the doctors and the gravediggers.
But this isn’t what you wanted to hear about is it? You want the dirty, slimy, cold hard true about being Giovanni do you? Well first off you never I repeat NEVER Dishonor The Family. Omerta is our code, break it, and I’ll break you! We ply our trade in blood, money, and souls of the dead. If you dare to learn more, read on below. (OOC: Slightly Restricted Clan, subject to cap)

Read More about the Giovanni clan in the player-created essay: Made Men and learn about the tenuous Treaty of 1528 that governs how the Giovanni and the Camarilla as well as it's enemies that do business with the Clan.of Death. (The treaty is also listed among other important Kindred Documents in the Appendices Section.)

If ever a clan was renowned for a wickedly black sense of humor, the Ravnos would be that clan. These Cainites are deceivers of the first order, weaving illusion and lies into elaborate schemes to part the foolish from whatever it is the Ravnos might fancy - be it wealth, blood or even their victims' freedom.
Like Mephistopheles or Old Scratch, the Ravnos ply their devil's deals with whomever they choose, be it human or Kindred, and woe to those who wind up unable to pay the hidden costs.
Nearly extinct since the week of nightmares, where inexplicably many Ravnos worldwide inexorably fell on eachother, nearly completely destroying the entirety of the Ravnos population, the remaining Ravnos are usually true loners, many of them fearing their own kind, and fearing what they may do if they come in contact with their brethren. In addition, many Kindred of other clans also fear them out of suspicion that the Ravnos may go suddenly mad and have to be put out of a dark and unstoppable frenzy. A line of healers and pacifists, Salubri are hunted down, especially by the Tremere, due to their rumored practice of diablarizing their sires and performing infernal rites. Very few of these Kindred exist to the Modern Nights, and very few other Kindred are even aware of their existence.
The Salubri are seen as murderers and soul stealers by the rest of the clans. Nothing could be further from the truth. When the Tremere were first founded, they sought out Saulot, the founder of Clan Salubri and the first vampire to attain Golconda, and diablorized him for his power. Since that day the Tremere have hunted and killed all but a few of the former clan, and proceded to spread rumors condemning the Salubri to the life of prey in the vampiric world.
Because of this they persue Golconda in remote locations away from Kindred and Kine alike.
This widely hated bloodline has far more enemies than it really deserves. Only seven of these Cainites exist at a time, for after a Salubri attains Golconda, she ends her existence and passes her blood to the individual she has chosen to take her place. Almost none survive for more than a few hundred years, for the Salubri consider vampiric existence to be agony. These vampires can usually pass as humans until someone notices that they possess a third eye. (OOC: The enigmatic and reclusive Salubri are not available as PCs and are NPC Only)

These hideous Kindred are universally reviled for the imperfect preservation of their form after their Embrace. Scholars of death, they have little to do with Kindred politics, except for when they are paid for their skills as mercenaries or assassins.
While the Daughters of Cacophony were a bloodline beautious in art, the Samedi are a bloodline hidious to behold. They look more like zombies than vampires, leading to a debate as to whether they are a branch of the Nosferatu clan or a failed experiment of Giovani Necromancy. However these hidious and rotting creatures have demonstrated immence control over death and undeath alike. They are often found acting as bodygaurds and assasins for those willing to meet their price. (A price lower than that of the Assamites, but then again they are not as skilled as the trained professionals)
The Samedi bloodline may be an offshoot of the Nosferatu, or possibly a branch of the Giovanni. Neither clan will take the credit (or the blame?) for these kindred. The Samedi bloodline has only been around for a few hundred years. The line appeared in Italy and the Caribbean. Only a few of these Kindred have come to the United States (OOC: Very Restricted Clan, subject to cap of 1)
